Question On Coefficients

Thanks for your question!
A coefficient is a number used to multiply the variable

Example: 2a means 2 times a. "a" is a variable, so 2 is the coefficient
Sometimes, you come to the end of solving an equation algebraically, and you have something where you have a coefficient and variable on one side of the = sign. You want to end up with just the variable. So you divide by the coefficient on both sides.
Example:
9 = 2x + 3
                                                                         -3         -3
                                                                         6 = 2x
Ok so, here you want to end up with just
? = x. So you divide by the coefficient (2) -->    6 = 2x
                                                                        /2    /2
You end up with -->                                         3 = x
