WCS Algebra
Hi! I'm Shannon. I have created this blog to help support 8th graders doing math in Williston Central School. All 8th graders in our school complete an 8th grade challenge that involves helping our community and increasing our own knowledge. The blog will include; general resources for algebra, resources to help with specific assignments, a hosting site for conversations about specific topics and assignments in our 8th grade math class.

How To Study For The Final/Midterm
Hello Everyone!
The algebra final is coming up, and I know many are stressing about it. If your house in WCS has not taken the midterm yet, this will help for the midterm as well.
STUDY TIPS FOR AN EASY A:
- Look over your notes and create flashcards for different algebra concepts.
- Ask your teacher for any problems you could do to prepare.
- Ask any questions you may have on this blog.
- Read my posts to fully understand different concepts
- Watch Khan Academy videos on things you need more understanding on. https://www.khanacademy.org/
- Do problems your teacher skipped over from your math book.
- Devote your time to practice solving.
- Keep up with my blog!
Question On Coefficients
Thanks for your question!
A coefficient is a number used to multiply the variable
Sometimes, you come to the end of solving an equation algebraically, and you have something where you have a coefficient and variable on one side of the = sign. You want to end up with just the variable. So you divide by the coefficient on both sides.
Example:
9 = 2x + 3
-3 -3
6 = 2x
Ok so, here you want to end up with just
? = x. So you divide by the coefficient (2) --> 6 = 2x
/2 /2
You end up with --> 3 = x
If you have a more specific question, please let me know -Shannon
